This easily digestible form of raw rice is very Atukulu (Aval) Payasam is prepared with rice flakes aka poha that is roasted in ghee, slowly simmered in a poppy seeds-coconut milk-jaggery base. Aval vadai or poha vadai recipe - when my family visited in February, amma brought me a huge sack of aval (poha or flattened rice).
